Vision for Success Virtual Summit 2021
As we begin DEI Awareness Month and California Community Colleges Month, the Vision for Success Virtual Summit will commence with a distinguished panel of statewide leaders who will synthesize the themes we are celebrating throughout the month and spotlight the discussion topics being showcased during this Summit. As our system advances and promotes the implementation of Anti-racist policies, practices, and structures the panel will discuss the importance of faculty hiring, evaluations, tenure review, and professional development in cultivating anti-racist practices in teaching and learning and creating more inclusive environments. In addition, the panel will discuss leveraging the Student Centered Funding Formula to support our diverse students and scale anti-racism efforts.
To improve how we show up for students and embrace the Vision for Success commitments, we must ask what students need at this moment to stay on their path. Join leaders from California community colleges to explore how to help students meet their basic needs, like housing and food, during unprecedented times. Our presenters will focus on the cultural shift from a deficit-mind set to a culture of caring that is needed to redesign the delivery of student support services to enable student success. The panel will discuss their efforts to break down structural barriers to integrate wrap-around student support services through courageous leadership. Learn about efforts to meet student’s basic needs by designing and deciding with the student in mind.
Financial structures are powerful tools to support student success and to close equity gaps, the foundations of the Vision for Success. Recent changes to funding structures incentivize colleges to directly connect budgets to student outcomes, evolving from siloes to integrated funding strategies that enable colleges to focus relentlessly on students’ end goals. Join leaders from California community colleges to explore how they are maximizing their funding reforms and mapping their budgets to their local student success and equity goals.
To further our goals of clarifying students’ paths and helping them stay on it, system-wide we are reforming structural barriers to student opportunity to ensure students are placed at the highest appropriate course level, with ample supports to help them succeed. This session will examine the difficulties and successes colleges have encountered while implementing equitable placement practices, and discuss how the system continues to maximize student access.
The Vision for Success is about moving our system toward student-centered models, which requires innovations that maximize student opportunity and outcomes. This final session of the Vision for Success Virtual Summit highlights Credit for Prior Learning, Competency Based Education, and work based learning as examples of how to innovate systemic structures keeping student’s end goals in mind.
